I have traveled to many counties in Central American and South America looking for the prefect place to retire. After many years of searching I have found the place that meets all of my requirements. My number one requirement was to live in a country where the natives treat you like a friend. The place I found is Ecuador. The people are very nice and are always willing to help. You will be welcome into there group of friends and they will be happy to get to know you better. I have found them very patient with me since I don’t speak much Spanish. I speak words that they don’t have a clue of what they mean, but with hand signs we usually manage to communicate. Then we laugh over the situation.  

 

I have been spending a great deal of my time in Cotacachi where my real estate project is being built. I think I decided to build these condos so I would have a reason to go back frequently. I found the prefect piece of land where I wanted to build my home. I showed some of my friends who also wanted to have a place there. So that is when I decided to build it into a community project, so like minded people could share in this real estate development. That way everyone would have an input into what they wanted in their retirement community.  Everyone wanted a community building where friends and family could share good times. Walking trails was an important issue. Some wanted horse stables, so they could ride. 

 

Some of my friend’s main concern was cost. In my opinion Ecuador is the cheapest place in the world you can live a life of luxury on a pensioner’s income. Retiring in Ecuador doesn’t mean just cheap, it mean you can live a great lifestyle with all the amenities on a low budget. Ecuador was recently voted the second best place to retire. Wow I am going to retire where people voted this is where they would like to retire if giving the opportunity. If you want a high quality lifestyle in a beautiful destination Ecuador is the place you have been looking for. Come visit and see for yourself. 

  

Some friends have asked me how much money I need to retire comfortably in Ecuador. This answer varies depending on your needs and lifestyle. I have a friend who tells me she lives well on $400 month. I have other friends that say to live like they enjoy living they need $1000 month. Some people enjoying flying down to the beach and spending a few days every month or two. Others are happy spending their time in one place. So it really is an individual decision.
